Community Baby Shower Model

This is a model started in the Willimantic area - and very successful. Last year this group had about 85 mothers-to-be. They were furnished with booklets in English and Spanish, some tee shirts, books, etc.

As a model, many towns can follow this - All agencies and public stores (drug stores, food, child care, etc) that can provide services to new mothers and babies attend.

Dear Community Friend:

As everyone knows, keeping women and children healthy is one of the most important things we can do as a community. Last year, with the help and generosity of a number of businesses, churches, and Town Employees, we were able to provide more than 35 “soon-to-be” moms who came to our Community Baby Shower with many of the items they and their babies needed for the months ahead. As a vital member of the East Hartford community we are once again asking for your generosity for our second annual COMMUNITY BABY SHOWER which is scheduled for Thursday, May 20, 2004. We are seeking donations of baby items or cash contributions to make this event a success and are asking you to share this information with your parishioners.

The Community Baby Shower is sponsored by East Hartford’s Health and Social Services, in partnership with the East Hartford Immunization Action Plan, the East Hartford Housing Authority, and other community providers and agencies. The event is meant to give soon-to-be new moms a chance to meet other moms in their community, learn about health strategies to help ensure a healthy birth and baby, and to find out about the many services and programs available in East Hartford to assist families. We are seeking donations of the following baby items:

  • Diapers, Baby Wipes, and Carry-All Bags
  • Infant clothing (sleep sets, t-shirts, bibs, hats, sweaters, etc.)
  • Bathing items (baby soaps, shampoo, wash cloths, cotton balls, towels)
  • Infant suitable toys (rattlers, pacifiers, plush toys, books)
  • Blankets & Bottles
  • Eating Items (“sippy cups,” plastic bowls, cups, etc.)
  • Cash donations for car seats and “give-aways”
If you wish to donate please call us at: 291-7448. We will make arrangements to pick up the donations which are eligible to serve as a tax deductible contribution. If you are contributing cash, please mail a check to: East Hartford Health and Social Services, 740 Main Street, East Hartford, CT 06108, Attn: Kate Mattias.

Thank you in advance for your support and commitment to the Community Baby Shower. Please feel free to call if you have any questions. We would appreciate hearing from you regarding donations no later than Monday, May 3rd.

Sincerely,

Kate Mattias,
Health Educator,
(291-7448)

Dr. Rory Angulo,
Immunization Action Plan Coordinator
